Coffin Bay Short and Sweet Oyster Farm Tour - Inc 6 Oysters
- Duration: 90 Minutes (approx.)
- Location: Coffin Bay, South Australia
- Product code: FTS&SO
Travel to an oyster farm just outside the township of Coffin Bay. Along the journey you'll experience beautiful Coffin Bay coastal & township views plus learn the history of oyster farming & visit the first ever oyster lease in Coffin Bay. Included in the tour is detailed information on the Native Angasi oyster reef restoration program occurring in Coffin Bay and other parts of Southern Australia.
While you sit back & relax your host, a veteran oyster farmer, will share with you the history of oyster farming. Including how premium Coffin Bay oysters are produced & what it is about the pristine Coffin Bay waterways that makes oysters world renowned. Plus we'll teach you how to shuck like a pro!
You'll witness pods of dolphins playing in the water alongside the boat as they follow us on our journey (sightings cannot be guaranteed but are highly likely).
Locally produced wines, beers & gin are available to purchase which are the perfect accompaniment to a plate of freshly shucked oysters direct from the source.
With so much to see & do in Coffin Bay we know that some visitors only have limited time to experience every aspect of the region & that's why we created the Short & Sweet tour. However for those wanting to take their oyster tour experience to the next level & wade in sandy bottom oyster farm surrounded by turquoise blue waters we highly recommend checking out our other Farm & Bay tour.
Important Information:
Checkin - Tour checkin time is strictly 15 minutes prior to you tour start time at the boat at berth 5 Coffin Bay Yacht Club floating jetty. The boat departs at the tour start time so please don't be late as we would hate for you to miss the boat. We can't wait unfortunately.
Tour Duration - Tour duration is an approximate only. If your tour finishes a little early it is only because of less numbers on board that day or weather has allowed us to finish everything a little quicker than normal.
Weather - The weather can quickly turn cold on the water, even when fine, sunny conditions are forecasted so we always advise bringing a warm jacket & beanie.
What to Bring - We also recommend you pack sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses & a camera (you are definitely going to want to capture this experience!)
Minors - Children 0-5yrs must be strictly supervised by their parents at all times.
We welcome children & infants on our tours. We find that most children are really curious about oysters, how they’re grown, the oyster boat, plus the marine life that we encounter along the cruise. However our skippers talk is approximately 20-30mins long which is generally not of interest to little ones. Therefore we recommend parents bring a quiet activity for this part of the tour (an iPad with head phones is ideal) or an exciting snack to keep the kids entertained during this time.
Alternatively families have the option to sit in the outside seating area during this part of the tour if they’d be more comfortable, which is an ideal location to spot an array of sea-creatures in the oyster farm.
Occasionally we have a few oyster bags to return to the water, if your booking is a special occasion & you don't want this to happen please let us know.
*Please note that this tour does not include a wading experience, if you are interested in a wading experience please check out our Farm & Bay Tour options on our Book Now page.
