Cruise 16km aboard CB01 to an oyster farm surrounded by crystal clear turquoise waters. Along the journey you'll experience all the beauty of the pristine Coffin Bay coastline including stunning views of secluded islands, pillowy beaches & witness pods of dolphins playing in the water alongside the oyster vessel (sightings cannot be guaranteed but are highly likely). Once we arrive you'll instantly discover the beauty & vastness of the world famous, prime growing oyster farms & be amazed by the crystal clear waters which surround them.
Now is your opportunity to wade among the oyster beds...! Waders are provided so you can become fully immersed in the oyster farm & discover all of its beauty up close at your own leisure. After the tour we retreat to the boat to indulge in some freshly shucked oysters that can be accompanied by a variety of local beverages which are available to purchase. While you sit back & relax your host, a veteran oyster farmer, will share with you the history of oyster farming including how world class oysters are produced in Coffin Bay. You'll also learn how to shuck like a pro! The oyster farmer also gives an update on the Angasi Reef Restoration Project, a community based initiation to restore extinct angasi oyster reefs in Coffin Bay. Before we return to Coffin Bay we have one more stop to make. We cruise past the Coffin Bay national park to Brother's Islands which is infamous for herds of seals. These beautiful creatures love lazing on the rocks of this remote island (sightings cannot be guaranteed but are highly likely). From here we take our time travelling back to the Coffin Bay marina so you can soak in every element of the beautiful, remote, Coffin Bay waterways.
Important Information: Minimum Numbers - We require a minimum of 4 people for this tour to operate. At the time of your booking you will be notified whether minimum numbers have been met. If minimum numbers have not been met you will be notified once they have. Alternatively you will be notified that minimum numbers have not been met & the tour will not be proceeding (this scenario is unlikely however if it occurs you will be issued a full refund or you will have the option to move your booking to an alternate date). Additionally if our schedule is not showing a particular day, time or tour that you are interested in please contact us & we will try to accommodate your request. Checkin - Tour checkin time is strictly 15 minutes prior to you tour start time at the boat at berth 5 Coffin Bay Yacht Club floating jetty. The boat departs at the tour start time so please don't be late as we would hate for you to miss the boat. We can't wait unfortunately. Tides & Weather - If a high tide or poor weather conditions prevent us from wading at the oyster lease, the wading experience will take place at Kellidie Bay, a stunning secluded beach engulfed with turquoise waters in the wider prime growing oyster region. Tour Duration - Tour duration is an approximate only. If your tour finishes a little early it is only because of less numbers on board that day or weather has allowed us to finish everything a little quicker than normal. What to Bring - We recommend you pack sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, a towel & camera (you are definitely going to want to capture this experience!) plus bathers if you prefer to swim then wade. The weather can also quickly turn on the water, even when fine, sunny conditions are forecast, so we always advise bringing a warm jacket & beanie. Minors - Children 0-4yrs must be strictly supervised by their parents at all times. Please note if you have a minor on board during busy tour times and they have not paid for a seat then they will be expected to sit on your lap if required. We welcome children & infants on our tours. We find that most children are really curious about oysters, how they’re grown, the oyster boat & all of the exciting marine life we encounter along the way. Plus love jumping on mum & dad's shoulders while they wade in the water...! However our skippers talk is approximately 20-30mins long which is generally not of interest to little ones. Therefore we recommend parents bring a quiet activity for this part of the tour (an iPad with head phones is ideal) or an exciting snack to keep the kids entertained during this time. Alternatively families have the option to sit in the outside seating area during this part of the tour if they’d be more comfortable, which is an ideal location to spot an array of sea-creatures in the oyster farm. Occasionally we have a few oyster bags to return to the water, if your booking is a special occasion & you don't want this to happen please let us know. Wading - In the event there are unforeseen circumstances & we cannot proceed with the wading experience you will be issued a 25% off discount code that can be used on a future booking. Please note that children under 130cm in height will not fit into our waders and will need to bring bathers etc to facilitate for them to enjoy their time in the water while others are wading.

Would you believe that winter is an ideal time to experience a Coffin Bay oyster farm tour…?! You read right... winter! Coffin Bay is a hidden gem in winter & we'll tell you all the reasons why. Coffin Bay oysters PEAK during winter - meaning the world's most sought after oysters only exist during winter & our tours offer you the opportunity to indulge in them direct from the oyster farm.
How and why do oysters peak in winter you ask...? Great question...! The cooler climate increases upwellings which Coffin Bay oysters feed on & thrive from. Upwellings nourish oysters with pure, nutrient rich waters & as a result they develop a firm flesh & embody a magnificent nutty flavour. Another reason we love oyster farm tours in winter is because more often than not we experience picturesque conditions on the waterways, cool but calm conditions. Plus our premium waders are guaranteed to keep you dry & toasty warm so you can explore the waterways in complete comfort. Our seal & sea lion sightings are also spectacular at this time of year, a guest recently describing this part of the tour as "like something out of a David Attenborough documentary" via facebook review. Itinerary Cruise 16km aboard CB01 to an oyster farm surrounded by crystal clear turquoise waters. Along the journey you'll experience all the beauty of the pristine Coffin Bay coastline including stunning views of secluded islands, pillowy beaches & witness pods of dolphins playing in the water alongside the oyster vessel (sightings cannot be guaranteed but are highly likely). Once we arrive you'll instantly discover the beauty & vastness of the world famous, prime growing oyster region. Here you can relax & enjoy a beverage from the licensed bar & take in the spectacular views as we slowly cruise through the farm. Now comes the fun part…! The wading experience!
Throughout winter there is a chance the tide will be too high to wade in the oyster farm. We experience higher tides during winter which enrich oysters with an abundance of nutrients which allow their flavour to fully develop. If the tide is too high for wading we'll cruise to one of Coffin Bay’s stunning, remote secluded beaches (a hidden gem of a location only accessible by boat). This beach has been identified as an optimal location for wading & exploring the Coffin Bay waterways during winter. Now it’s time to pop on some waders, immerse yourself in nature & explore the waterways at your own leisure...! An enthralling experience where you'll discover just how pure & translucent the waters of Coffin Bay are (it's no wonder they nourish & produce the world's best oysters...!) After the wading experience we retreat to the boat & your host, a veteran oyster farmer, will share with you the history of oyster farming including how world class oysters are produced in Coffin Bay. At the conclusion of the oyster talk you will be served up freshly shucked Premium Season Oysters. The flavour of these oysters is simply incredible & is perfectly matched with the beverages available to purchase aboard the oyster vessel. Before we return to Coffin Bay we have one more stop to make. We cruise to the Coffin Bay national park to Brother's Island to see the herds of seals. From here we take our time travelling back to the Coffin Bay marina so you can soak in every element of the beautiful, remote, Coffin Bay landscapes and waterways.
*This itinerary is subject to change & based on the skippers discretion on the day. *In the event the wading experience takes place outside the oyster farm we you will be issued a 25% off discount code that can be used on a future booking.

So join us for an authentically wild farm to fork food journey on our Winter Short & Sweet Tour which includes a cruise to the first ever Coffin Bay oyster farm & the opportunity to indulge in Premium Season Oysters.
Itinerary Cruise to an oyster farm just outside the township of Coffin Bay. Along the journey you'll experience stunning Coffin Bay coastal & township views. Once we arrive at the farm you can sit back, relax & enjoy the view as we float through the oyster beds. Your host, a veteran oyster farmer, will then share with you the history of oyster farming, including how Coffin Bay oysters are produced & what makes them world renowned. He'll also teach you how to shuck like a pro!
Then you'll be served up your freshly shucked Premium Season Oysters.
The flavour of these oysters is simply incredible & perfectly matched with the beverages available to purchase aboard the oyster vessel. From here we take our time travelling back to the Coffin Bay marina so you can soak in every element of the beautiful, remote, Coffin Bay waterways.
With so much to see & do in Coffin Bay we know some visitors have limited time to experience every aspect of the region & that's why we created the Short & Sweet tour. However for those wanting to take their oyster tour experience to the next level & wade in sandy bottom oyster farm surrounded by turquoise blue waters we highly recommend checking out our Farm & Bay tour.
Important Information: Checkin - Tour checkin time is strictly 15 minutes prior to you tour start time at the boat at berth 5 Coffin Bay Yacht Club floating jetty. The boat departs at the tour start time so please don't be late as we would hate for you to miss the boat. We can't wait unfortunately.
Tour Duration - Tour duration is an approximate only. If your tour finishes a little early it is only because of less numbers on board that day or weather has allowed us to finish everything a little quicker than normal. Weather - The weather can quickly turn cold on the water, even when fine, sunny conditions are forecasted so we always advise bringing a warm jacket & beanie.
What to Bring - We also recommend you pack sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses & a camera (you are definitely going to want to capture this experience!) Minors - Children 0-5yrs must be strictly supervised by their parents at all times. We welcome children & infants on our tours. We find that most children are really curious about oysters, how they’re grown, the oyster boat, plus the marine life that we encounter along the cruise.
*Please note that this tour does not include a wading experience, if you are interested in a wading experience please check out our Farm & Bay Tour options on our Book Now page.

Embrace Coffin Bay's rugged & beautiful Wild Side on this tour & become fully immersed in an oyster farm (our premium waders are guaranteed to keep you dry!) Plus indulge in the rare delicacy of Premium Season Oysters fresh from the farm.
They call the Eyre Peninsula The Wild Side for a reason.... because things can get pretty wild in this part of South Australia!
Coffin Bay is particularly wild in nature & this tour has been designed to embrace every element of that Wild Side. From experiencing the rare & wild delicacy of the world's most sought after oysters & becoming fully immersed in the Coffin Bay waterways during winter. Don't worry, our premium waders will keep you cosy & dry while you explore! To an authentically wild farm to fork food journey including a cruise to the first ever Coffin Bay oyster farm & indulging in Premium Season Oysters which only exist for a few months per year. Premium Season Oysters are a winter delicacy produced by an increased number of upwellings throughout winter which nourish oysters with beautiful pure, nutrient rich waters. This nourishment allows their flavour to fully develop & on this tour you can experience Premium Season Oysters direct from the oyster farm. Itinerary First we cruise 3km to the first ever established oyster farm in Coffin Bay. Along the journey you can sit back, relax & take in the beautiful rugged scenery. Once we arrive at the farm you can enjoy spectacular views of every aspect of the oyster region from your cosy window seat with a glass of wine in hand. Next your host, a veteran oyster farmer, will share the history of oyster farming in Coffin Bay, including the secret to growing world class oysters. From here we cruise to a remote, secluded beach (a hidden gem of a location). This beach has been identified as an optimal spot for exploring the Coffin Bay waterways during winter. Unfortunately the tide at the oyster lease is too high for wading in winter. It's those high tides that are transforming the oysters into Premium Season Oysters. The oysters are constantly marinating in the beautiful, pure Coffin Bay waters, allowing their flavour to fully develop. Now comes the fun part…! It’s time to pop on some waders, immerse yourself in nature & explore the waterways at your own leisure. An enthralling experience where you'll discover just how pure & translucent the waters of Coffin Bay are (it's no wonder they nourish & produce the world's best oysters...!) At the conclusion of the wading experience you will be served up your freshly shucked Premium Season Oysters.
The flavour of these oysters is simply incredible & perfectly matched with the beverages available to purchase aboard the oyster vessel. From here we take our time travelling back to the Coffin Bay marina so you can soak in every element of the beautiful, remote, Coffin Bay waterways.
*This itinerary is subject to change & based on the skippers discretion on the day.

Along the journey you'll experience beautiful Coffin Bay coastal & township views plus learn the history of oyster farming & visit the first ever oyster lease in Coffin Bay. While you sit back & relax your host, a veteran oyster farmer, will share with you the history of oyster farming. Including how premium Coffin Bay oysters are produced & what it is about the pristine Coffin Bay waterways that makes oysters world renowned. Plus we'll teach you how to shuck like a pro! You'll witness pods of dolphins playing in the water alongside the boat as they follow us on our journey (sightings cannot be guaranteed but are highly likely).
Locally produced wines, beers & gin are available to purchase.
With so much to see & do in Coffin Bay we know that some visitors only have limited time to experience every aspect of the region & that's why we created the Short & Sweet tour. However for those wanting to take their oyster tour experience to the next level & wade in sandy bottom oyster farm surrounded by turquoise blue waters we highly recommend checking out our other Farm & Bay tour. Tour time approximately 1.5hours.
If this type of tour is of interest to you, simply send us an email at visit@experiencecoffinbay.com.au with your preliminary details, including group size & proposed tour dates. *Please note that this tour does not include a wading experience, if you are interested in a wading experience please check out our Private Farm & Bay Tour option on our Book Now page. If we are not showing the day or time that you are interested in please contact us directly and we will certainly try to accommodate your request.
